The present drawing is after a picture exhibited by Roberts at the Royal Academy in 1854, which was then shown again at the London International Exhibition of 1874. That picture was painted for Alfred Brooks, of the wine merchant Justerini and Brooks. We are grateful to Krystyna Matyjaszkiewicz for her help in preparing this catalogue entry.
