The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Please note antique textiles exhibit wear, losses, soiling and tears from normal use and repurposing. Some elements are re-pieced together with complimentary or contemporaneous textiles to mend.
Comprising two joined panels for largest element, and two smaller fragments of irregular shape and with an uneven borders. The later embroidery of trellis pattern is uneven in areas. With losses and fraying to the silver metallic thread, some areas more apparent than others. With irregular piecing to all elements. There are creases in the silk with small tears and wholes as to be expected. Fraying to the embroidered ground. Soiling throughout the three elements and some evidence of water damage to the largest element to extreme right edge. An interesting example of silk production at Spitalfields.

221⁄2 in. wide, 23 in. long (irregular)
Christie’s strongly suggests viewing this lot in person. You may wish to contact a professional textile conservator with any additional questions as we are unable to provide in-depth condition analysis.
