The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Please note antique textiles exhibit wear, losses, soiling and tears from normal use and repurposing. Some elements are re-pieced together with complimentary or contemporaneous textiles to mend.
The first, on a rust ground, with some scattered losses to the silk floss throughout, additional small areas of fraying to the silk floss. There's some concentrated staining in areas and some smaller points of potential bleeding of dyes. The short ends with a raw edge. 491⁄4 in. (125.1 cm.) wide, 95 in. (241.3 cm.) long
The second, on a brick ground, more apparent fraying to the silk floss. Some separation along the seams. Some light staining and some encrustations to the cotton ground. The short ends with a raw edge. 471⁄2 in. (120.7 cm.) wide, 951⁄2 in. (242.6 cm.) long
The third, with parallel banding, pieced from four similar strips, some minor variance in ground color and length. Some minor fraying and losses to the silk floss. Puckering at the seams and some natural wear at the creases as expected with age. Some scattered areas of light staining or soiling. The short ends with raw edges. 49 in. (124.5 cm.) wide, 1001⁄2 in. (255.3 cm.) long
Christie’s strongly suggests viewing this lot in person. You may wish to contact a professional textile conservator with any additional questions as we are unable to provide in-depth condition analysis.
