The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Please note antique textiles exhibit wear, losses, soiling and tears from normal use and repurposing. Some elements are re-pieced together with complimentary or contemporaneous textiles to mend.
The first:
In good over all condition, with minor areas of soiling and discoloration, most evident to the cream silk floss. Light fraying to silk floss scattered.
The second:
In good overall condition. Minor areas of soiling and discoloration. Some separating at the seams. Light fraying to the silk floss in areas.
The third:
With more apparent soiling and discoloration to the field. One edge panel with considerable wear to the silk floss, paritcularly the cream. Some separating at the joined panel seams, and one short edge slightly uneven.
Christie’s strongly suggests viewing this lot in person. You may wish to contact a professional textile conservator with any additional questions as we are unable to provide in-depth condition analysis.
