The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Overall in good, sound condition and ready to place. With typical scattered nicks, surface marks, scuffs, and scratches consistent with age and handling. With some further minor dings, primarily to the central stem as to be expected, and some minute losses to the raised decoration, not extensive. With some minor repairs to the carved decoration, including to the winged cresting on the base, one with some minor glue residue. With patch repairs to the uppermost rim under the tray, not readily visible, and the lower end of each column on the reverse. The gilt and ebonized decoration with some rubbing, lifting, minor cracking and some flaking, revealing bole and in some areas bare wood, including to the hair of one sphinx. With some refreshment to the decoration in areas, and in some places with oxidation to the gilt decoration, including the winged cresting. The mahogany trays with some further light surface wear, consistent with use. Very decorative and present well.
