Lot Essay

For a similar example, see pl. 54 in P. Getz-Gentle, Stone Vessels of the Cyclades in the Early Bronze Age. Getz-Gentle (op. cit., p. 99) observes that in the Early Cycladic II period, the plain bowl "superseded the complex EC I kandila as the most popular form for nonquotidian use." She goes on to explain that affordability, as well as function, likely led to this change, suggesting that modifications in funerary practices and other religious rites affected the popularity and frequency of the form.
