Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Intact as preserved. Losses as visible in the illustration, including to the black border along the lower edge and the white background above the fish, exposing the concrete underneath. Some losses to the fish along the top of its head. The process of removing a mosaic from its original floor requires that each tessera be reset in modern mortar. Therefore it is impossible to know for sure if every stone is in its exact original position. Several tesserae broken; some tesserae lost; incrustation and surface wear throughout.
