Various knocks, scuffs, marks, scratches, dents and abrasions consistent with age and use. Structurally stable. The top with significant evidence of old apparently inactive woodworm, particularly to the raised central coffered section which has some loss along the centre. The rear inch of this top plank has been replaced as have strips along the front left and right corners. The construction of the top, with the unusual corner slot and tenon construction, apparently original. The hinges replaced. The rest of the cassone again with some historical woodworm and associated losses to the carving - most notably to the extremities of the feet.The front central panel is generally well preserved; traces of polychromy to the lion and some other carved areas.
