The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The additional leaves are not original to the table and are later in date - they probably date to the first half of the 20th century. They are veneered rather than solid mahogany. The extending mechanism has age but has probably been adapted at some point to accommodate the later leaves and the supporting pedestal has been repositioned at various times along the extending mechanism - probably due to it becoming detatched. The table possibly also had additional extending sections around the circumference, as evidenced by vacant slots to the frieze.
Inevitable knocks, scuffs, marks, scratches, dents and abrasions overall consistent with age and use. Minor shrinkage splits to the veneers.
The top - each of the later leaves quite consistent in colour, though with some minor sunfading and marks. Some deeper scratches to three of the sections - this is consistent with two of the leaves having been stored in the basement and the table used in the house as a base for a statue. The solid mahogany main section of the top has some sun-fading around what was the statue's base and the statue was probably in place for some time.
Please note that the table is sold with 9 leaves and two half-leaves but the table only supports 8 of the 9 additional leaves comfortably and only has one small additional pedestal. We would advise speaking to a restorer to discuss the stability - though when set up for catalogue photography it seemed stable with the 8 leaves in place.
