The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Various knocks, scuffs, marks, scratches, dents and abrasions consistent with age and use,
As catalogued, the chairs have been redecorated and there are traces of an earlier scheme visible in one or two places. To each there is significant wear and tear to the japanned decoration and some losses/chips to the decoration at the extremities. The later decoration has been refreshed in some small areas.
Evidence of old, apparently inactive woodworm to the frames of each.
Chair A:
In addition to the above, this chair with an old iron plate to the side of the side rail and beneath, where previously eaten by worm, to reinforce the structure. An old break and repair where the right stile meets the toprail. The back feet tipped. Break and repair to front right leg around where it meets the stretcher.
Chair B:
In addition to the above, this chair with significant woodworm damage to front right lower leg and eaten away at the foot. Would recommend that these chairs are strengthened by a professional conservator/restorer prior to use.
