The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall these commodes are in good, structurally stable condition.
Inevitable scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits, chips, abrasions and discolouration overall, consistent with age and use.
Some shrinkage splits to the veneers, some old repairs to the veneers which have discoloured differently over time, visible beneath the lower drawers of each commode. Some minor bowing and unevenness to the veneers of the top, which have contracted and moved over time. The surface is not over polished and is slightly dry in some areas. Some chips and losses to the gilded areas. An area of white paint to the giltwood moulding beneath the top towards the right hand corner at the front of one commode. Chips, losses and wear to the decoration of the feet. Some losses to the foliate leaves above the feet, of both commodes. The back left leg of one commode with a vacant 3 inch slot just above the foot. The metalwork tarnished, dirty and with some dents and bends. One commode with a section of the lower banding missing to the lower left side and a section of the upper beading missing to the upper right side. The other commode missing the escutcheon to the middle drawer. Evidence of old, apparently inactive woodworm to both commodes.
