The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
These useful bedside tables are in good, structurally stable condition overall. Inevitable scratches, marks, knocks, abrasions, dents, wear and discolouration overall, consistent with age and use. Shrinkage splits to the veneers overall, including vertical splits to the tops, fronts and to the sides. Some wear and chips to the gilding. Knocks, dents and losses to the metalwork. Two of the handles to the commode with drawers have been replaced and one has a replaced pull and is damaged. The lower handle of the cabinet is damaged. Some losses to the giltwood leaves above the feet of both pieces of furniture. Losses, chips and wear to the feet. Evidence of old, apparently inactive woodworm. As catalogued, the commode cabinet has been adapted in form slightly - and the hinged door probably originally also incorporated the frieze panel which has now been fixed; the cut to the bottom of the fluted upright has probably been shaved down slightly where the door was previously catching/hitting, hence its fresh appearance; the interior has also been fitted with later boards with the bottom board having been removed - and probably originally housed a pot cupboard.
