Lot Essay

La Compagnie Renaud-Barrault was founded by Jean-Louis Barrault and his wife Madeleine Renaud in 1947. Yves Saint Laurent was commissioned to create two series of costumes for la Compagnie Renaud-Barrault at the Théâtre de l’Odéon. The first was for Le Mariage de Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) by Pierre Beaumarchais and the second for Il faut passer par les nuages (You Must Pass Through the Clouds) by François Billetdoux, which were both directed by Jean-Louis Barrault.
