拍品專文

This scene depicts Su Wu, a Han dynasty official and enduring symbol of loyalty, who was imprisoned for nineteen years by the Xiongnu and compelled to herd sheep in the remote northern frontier. Shown holding his envoy’s staff (jie), he became a powerful emblem of steadfast fidelity. His story was a popular narrative on export porcelain during the Qianlong period (1735–1796), appealing to European collectors’ fascination with exotic Chinese tales and virtuous heroes. A Yongzheng dish with closely-related design from the Palmer Collection sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 30 May 2023, lot 2832.
