拍品專文

This stem bowl depicts the popular scholarly theme of Wang Xizhi (303–361), the esteemed “Sage of Calligraphy,” and his cherished geese. The scene, showing the sage seated in a garden, illustrates the legend of his deep affection for the birds, from whose elegant neck movements he was said to have drawn inspiration for his calligraphic technique. The portrayal of such a refined anecdote on a famille verte vessel reflects the Kangxi period’s taste for combining vibrant porcelain artistry with cultured allusions, elevating the object beyond mere tableware to a medium for intellectual and aesthetic engagement.
