Lot Essay

This meticulously painted miniature vase, measuring only seven centimeters in height, exemplifies the 18th-century tradition of ‘small-piece’ (xiao jian qi) wares. These exquisitely scaled objects, faithful in form to their full-sized counterparts, were conceived for the scholar’s desk and for display within multi-compartment curio cabinets (duobaoge). Their creation reflects a deliberate and virtuosic pursuit of technical refinement, transforming a functional ceramic vessel into a precious object for intellectual contemplation and private delight.
