拍品專文

'Kraak' ware tells an interesting story of trade between China and the West. In the early years of the 17th century, the Dutch captured a Portuguese merchant ship that carried a large quantity of Ming blue and white porcelain, this event initiated the Dutch appreciation for such pieces, which pervades to this day and can be seen in museum collections such as that of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The type of Ming porcelain found on this ship has since then been known as 'kraak' porcelain, the Dutch interpretation of the Portuguese word for the type of merchant ship, the carrack.
