THE TEMPLE BANNER, CHINA, 18TH CENTURY
The jifu is ground with stitched chestnut-coloured satin thread and decorated with eight five-clawed dragons amidst cloud scrolls, bats and other auspicious symbols above crashing waves. It has blue-ground hems and cuffs and is lined with blue silk. Together with a Japanese coral-ground and gilt silk panel and a Chinese temple banner brocaded with ruyi heads and dragons.
