Lot Essay

The younger brother of Kano Tan'yu (1602-1674), Naonobu was also appropriated the famous volcano, as the patriarch of the Kobikicho branch of the Edo Kano school. He was known for his free style brushwork which is very unique compared to the conventional brushwork often seen on the works by other Kano school artists in the seventeenth century.
