Lot Essay

Carved red lacquer boxes of peach shape were highly appreciated under the reign of the emperor Qianlong. A similar box, also with figural decoration on the cover within a ruyi and bat border, and with flowers on the sides, is illustrated in Catalogue of a Special Exhibition of Lacquerware in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1981, no. 60.
