Lot Essay

The top of the seal is intricately carved in the form of a recumbent mythical beast with a beak, horn and bifurcated tail. The stone has dark blackish-brown streaks, with the paler greyish-white area reserved to highlight the mythical beast. The square seal face is carved with the characters chang yi zi sun, which may be translated as 'endless blessings for future generations'.
