Lot Essay

This type of ewer was inspired by Middle Eastern metal prototypes and would have been made for export to the Middle East or India. It would have been paired with a basin and used in handwashing. A ewer of related form is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, No. 1581-1876.
