Lot Essay

The seal face contains a thirteen-character phrase reading 'jiang shan feng yue wu chang zhu, xian zhe bian shi zhu ren', which may be translated as 'The rivers, mountains, moon and wind do not answer to anyone, but you become their master if you appreciate them at leisure'. This poetic phrase is extracted from Su Shi's work Lin Gao Xian Ti.
