Lot Essay
These miniature thangkas are painted on cloth and depict a selection of Buddhist deities, some with their consorts, within red borders with needle holes that suggest they may once have been attached to something. The reverse of each thangka has various inscriptions in red and black ink, some identifying the deity.

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
We have sought to record changes in the condition of this piece acquired after its initial manufacture. -There is a staining to the left side of each thangka, which is likely to be due to water. -One thangka has an area of loss to the canvas to the upper left corner, which does not reach the painted area. -There is some writing in lanca script to the back of each thangka in pencil, red and black pigments. -There are some minor losses to the pigment on each painting, as can be expected with age. -Otherwise, the paintings themselves are well-preserved.
