Laozi Expounding the Daodejing

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

We have sought to record changes in the condition of this piece acquired after its initial manufacture. The painting has numerous areas of silk loss that are repaired but with limited repainting. The calligraphy is on paper and has numerous cracks and repaired areas of paper loss. The mounting, which is in good condition, consists of a brocade wrapper, a blue-and-gold kesi panel of peonies, bats and clouds, and green-patterned silk. Overall in our opinion this lot is in satisfactory condition.
