Lot Essay

The vase is modelled after a European glass original whose form must have presented a technical challenge for the Chinese potters to copy.
A similar example is illustrated by R.Krahl and J.Ayers in Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul, vol. 111, p.1019, plate 2181. Christie's London sold a pair of similar vases on 8 June 2004, lot 316.
