Details
The group comprises: a blue and white bracket-lobed dish decorated with two deer frolicking amongst pine; a dish decorated with composite floral scroll on the front and the bajixiang (The Eight Buddhist Emblems) on the reverse, and inscribed with a Chenghua mark on the base; a dish decorated with two ladies and two musicians on the front and a beribonned conch shell on the base; a dish decorated with birds and `antiques'; a dish decorated with ladies and a boy in the centre encircled by ruyi in the cavetto and set with a metal handle, a dish decorated with composite floral scroll on the interior and set with a metal handle; and a blue and white bowl decorated with a pattern of shaped panels enclosing prunus blossoms and ruyi-form clouds.
Five large dishes 10⅜ in. (26.5 cm.) diam.
Small dish 6⅜ in. (16.2 cm.) diam.
Bowl 7⅛ in. (8.2 cm.) diam.

Acquired in the first half of the 20th century, then by descent within the family.

Lot Essay

The bases of the two dishes decorated to the centre with flower heads and foliage, one with a metal handle, each have a six-character underglaze blue mark reading "Qi yu bao ding zhi zheng" that may translated as "Precious object of rare jade amongst treasured vessels."
