Both sides of the snuff bottle are painted with scenes from The Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, one side shows the story of Qiao Niang below a two-character inscription Qiao Niang, the reverse with Fen Zhou Hu, with an inscription incorporating a cyclical date, Jiayin (1914), a signature followed by a seal.
