The roundel is worked in couched gold thread with a leaping, five-clawed, front-facing dragon protecting a flaming pearl amidst flames and ruyi-shaped clouds interspersed with bats and shou characters above crashing waves, all worked in blue, ochre, purple, and red silk thread.
12 ½ in. (31.8 cm.) diam.


Provenance
The Collection of General Joseph W. Stilwell (1883-1946), acquired in the early twentieth century, and thence by descent within the family.
