AN ASIAN PAINTED 'HEART SUTRA' SCROLL
20TH CENTURY
This blue-ground silk hanging scroll depicts in gold a richly dressed standing Avalokiteshvara with a halo on a lotus base and the Heart Sutra inscribed in small regular script at the top. The work is signed Yuezhao, possibly a monk.
16⅜ x 45⅛ in. (41.5 x 114.5 cm.)

Collection of Rolf Alfred Stein (1911-1999), a distinguished scholar, and thence by descent.
