PROPERTY FROM PRIVATE ENGLISH COLLECTION
A RED-GROUND 'DRAGON AND PHOENIX' WEDDING SKIRT AND A PAIR OF YELLOW-GROUND EMBROIDERED SILK CHAIR COVERS
19TH CENTURY
The skirt is decorated to the central panel with a five-clawed dragon in couched gilt thread amongst clouds, with a bat above and lishui waves below, with phoenix panels and a further dragon to either side, all bordered by floral scrolls in 'three blues' floss silk. Each chair back is decorated with a stylised shou-roundel in couched gilt thread, encircled by floral scrolls and five gilt bats, wufu. Together with two silk panels.

Provenance:
Collection of Lady Evelyn Mason (1870-1944), Eynsham Hall, Oxfordshire, acquired prior to 1920, then by descent within the family.
