Heber R. Bishop (1840-1902) was a successful banker, entrepreneur and philanthropist, and formed one of the largest collections of Chinese jades in the second half of the nineteenth century. He bequeathed 900 jade carvings to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1902. His legendary collection was featured in a celebrated, limited edition 2-volume publication edited by George F. Kunz, The Bishop Collection. Investigations and Studies in Jade, New York, Privately Printed [by the De Vinne Press], 1906.
