Details
Each figure is modelled standing astride a plinth wearing a hat and full armour beneath a green robe knotted at the waist and decorated with floral blooms. One figure holds a yellow dragon seal, the other two hold a square parcel wrapped in a yellow textile with flower heads.

Provenance
Formerly in a private collection in France, most of which was purchased in Paris during the 1960s and 1970s, and then by descent to the present owner.

Guandi is the Chinese God of War known for his power over demons and as the protector of China. He is usually depicted wearing a green robe and often has a reddish face. He is based on the legendary mortal Guan Yu who lived in China in the 3rd century AD and who became the immortal Guandi after his death.
