Details
Both Luohan are carved wearing long, flowing robes. One is holding a small pagoda and the other a string of prayer beads. Damo is shown standing with a Buddhist lion in his arms.
The soapstone Luohan: 4 and 4¼ in. (10 and 11 cm.) high
The bamboo Damo: 5¾ in. (14.5 cm.) high
Provenance
Collection of the late French diplomat Georges Dubail (1845-1932), acquired in China prior to 1906.
