Sun Zhongwei (1917-) is a native of Penglai, Shandong province. In 1934 he became a student of the renowned painter Yu Fei'an (1889-1959) who excelled at painting birds and flowers. Later, Sun was introduced to Zhang Daqian (1899-1983) and was instructed by him. Sun Zhongwei graduated from the Law department at National Southwestern Associated University. In 1949, he started working at the Shanghai Museum.
