Lot Essay

Wang Jiyuan (1893-1975) was born in Wujin of Jiangsu province. In 1941, he came to the U.S. and founded the School of Chinese Brushwork, teaching classical Chinese paintings and calligraphy. He excelled at both Western and Chinese painting methods, especially in watercolor. He emphasized painting from nature and established a distinctively personal style.
