A YELLOW-GROUND GILT 'DRAGON' SCROLL COVER
CIRCA 1800
The yellow ground is woven in gilt thread with a shaped cartouche enclosing two confronting five-clawed dragons chasing a flaming pearl amidst cloud scrolls. Each corner is embellished with a peony spray, all within a scrolling border. Silk lining.

Lot Essay

A very similar scroll cover, dated to the Guangxu period (1875-1908) was sold at Christie's South Kensington, 17 May 2013, lot 1455.
