Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Oil on canvas. Not lined. Varnished. Some minor frame abrasion with associated paint losses in places along the edges. The canvas appears to have been restreched as visible from the unpainted right and left edges and from the previous nail holes on the canvas overlap. Some pale surface dirt. The canvas undulates slightly. Some hairline stable craquelures in places (the most visible towards the centre of the body). Some further drying cracks in the dark blue pigments. A few small paint losses in places (the most visible in the background just above the abdomen). Some surface abrasion to some of the high points of the impastos, some probably dating from the artist’s studio. Examined under ultra-violet light : no apparent retouching. Subject to the foregoing, it is our opinion that this work appears to be in generally good condition.
