A GREEN LACED BLACK LACQUERED HONKOZANE NIMAI-DO GUSOKU [TWO-PIECE ARMOUR]
EDO PERIOD (17TH-18TH CENTURY)
The armour comprising:
Helmet (kabuto):
A sabiage [lacquered in simulation of rust] sixty four plate koboshi helmet (bowl with small ‘star’ rivets’) black-lacquered iron mabisashi [brim], gilt five tier hachimanza [decorative surround to aperture in crown], black lacquered mabisashi [brim], four tier black lacquered iron shittsukezane [plate simulating linked scales] shikoro [neck guard], mabisashi and fukigaeshi [turned back portions of the shikoro] with gilt fukurin, the mabisashi with three gold lacquer maru ni futatsubiki [double bar within a circle] mon, two applied gilt mon on the fukigaeshi, maedate [forecrest] of a gilt rounded crescent moon within which engraved waves and matching central mon

Face Mask (menpo):
Black lacquered menpo [face mask] with detachable nose and unkempt bristle moustache, three tier shittsukezane yodarekake [bib]

Cuirass (do) and Skirt (kusazuri):
The cuirass green kebiki-odoshi [close-laced braid] black lacquered iron honkozane [individual scales], munaita [upper breast portion] oshitsuke-no-ita [upper rear plate], watagami [shoulder braces], and gyoyou [frontal watagami covers] clad with green and white dyed leather with gilt fukurin matching the helmet components, large gilt agamaki no kan with red agamaki bow, five tier kusazuri [skirt] of seven tassets of green-laced black-lacquered hon-kozane

Sleeves and Shoulder Guards (kote and sode):
Six tiered chu-sode [medium shoulder guards], the kanmuriita clad in green and white leather with grasses design, black lacquered iron shino-gote [sleeves]

Thigh and Lower Leg Guards (haidate and suneate):
Five tier black lacquered leather scale Iyo-haidate [thigh guard], nine-splint black lacquered iron shino-suneate [lower leg guards], upper section white leather-clad brigandine, lower leather portion dyed red-brown and white shishi-mo [lion and water weed] design, all laced components mounted on pale blue silk with black and white embroidered stylized dragons and spirals
