EDO-MEIJI PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)
Of typical form with a detachable drop-front opening to reveal six drawers, the red lacquer ground with silver lacquer edges, the drop-front with a kidney-shaped panel decorated in gold and silver hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirikane, nashiji and kinpun, depicting a moonlit scene with a castle and pavilions, pine, bridges over water, trees and mountains in the distance, the interiors black lacquer, each drawer with four compartments for inro and netsuke and with purple liner, the silver hinges and lock plate engraved with stylised foliage, the silver door- and drawer-pulls in the form of sixteen-petal chrysanthemums
