MOMOYAMA - EDO PERIOD (LATE 16TH - EARLY 17TH CENTURY)
The rectangular box with an unusually deep cover with shallow cut-away to the sides and bold lead rims, the black lacquer ground decorated in the style of Honami Koetsu (1558-1637) in hiramaki-e [low relief lacquer] and inlays of mother-of-pearl and tin, with shinobugusa fern and camellias over the cover and the sides, the interior with a maple twig and leaves, some in silhouette, with veins in harigaki
