Of globular form with rounded neck, two loop handles to the shoulder, decorated in underglaze blue with two ho-o birds against karahana [Chinese floral scrolls], the neck with scrolling clouds

Miyagawa Hannosuke (Hanzan) was the adopted son of Miyagawa Kozan (1842-1916), otherwise known as Makuzu Kozan. Hanzan played an active part in the Makuzu workshop from a very early stage. After Kozan's death Hanzan took charge of the studio and in May 1917 officially became Makuzu Kozan II.
