Lot Essay

This mask represents an attractive teenage boy of between twelve and seventeen years old who works as an acolyte in a Zen temple. There are two styles of kasshiki mask which are differentiated by their hairstyles - either a straight fringe across the forehead as in this example, or flaring out in the form of a ginko leaf (icho kasshiki).
