Early impressions are known by the application of mica to the toad's belly and the signature surrounded by a red cartouche and although the red has faded slightly, both are present in this example, see Robert Schaap, Heroes and Ghosts, Japanese Prints by Kuniyoshi (1797-1861), (The Netherlands, 1998), p.41
