A WOOD TORSO OF A BUDDHIST GUARDIAN
KAMAKURA PERIOD (12TH - 13TH CENTURY)
The torso shows that the figure was sculpted and composed of a number of pieces roughly hollowed and fitted together in an early precursor to the yosegi-zukuri method of constructing a sculpture from separate pieces forming an outer shell, with later fitted metal stand
