Lot Essay

London-based artist Kate Braine studied sculpture at City & Guilds School of Art, and began her career working on bronze portrait busts and body casts, before discovering ceramics. Centrally important to Braine's work is the natural world, with pieces often inspired by flora, fauna and sea creatures. However, these are interpreted in a manner intended to challenge the viewer with her use of a kaleidoscope of colour, unusual glazes and techniques that truly push the boundaries of what is possible to achieve in clay.
