Yoshitoshi depicts Taira no Koremochi about to kill the female demon on Mt. Togakushi in Shinano.
The story depicted here is that of Taira no Koremochi, who whilst hunting, came upon a princess and her attendants in the woods. On their invitation he joined them and after feasting and drinking he fell asleep. In a dream he saw that the princess was in fact the demon Kijo who intended to kill him. Waking, he sees the demon (here its true form is reflected in the water below) and draws his sword to kill it.
