Lot Essay
Here the 12th century figure Endo Morito (later known as the priest Mongaku Shonin) is shown doing penance for thirty-seven days under the freezing Nachi waterfall for accidentally killing his lover Kesa Gozen. He is assisted by two of Fudo Myo's attendants Seitaka and Kongara in the top right of the design.
