Lot Essay

A group of women have come to enjoy the sunrise from the beach at Futamigaura. Its special attraction are two sacred rocks in the sea called “Wedded Rocks” (Meoto Iwa) which are joined by a shimenawa rope which acts as the division between the spiritual and earthly realms. The view of the sun rising between the two rocks on a fine summer morning is especially prized.
