Lot Essay

The beautiful liberator, Green Tara, sits here in her classic pose, lalitasana, ready to swiftly come to the aid of her devotees. The present gilt-bronze figure is a large and elegant depiction, with features such as the jeweled string that rests across her thighs and the particularly ornate lotus blossoms at her shoulder evincing a masterly artisan. The graceful s-curve of her pose, the languidly pooled drapery and the inlays of turquoise all indicate the work was made in the fifteenth century at the height of Tibetan Buddhist art.
